Kuyl Named to Google Cloud Academic All-District Team

BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins men's swimming senior Emile Kuyl has been named to the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District At-Large Team, selected by CoSIDA. This is his second straight selection to the all-district team. The men's swimming team has now produced 19 Academic All-District selections, including at least one in each of the last six years. Kuyl is just the fifth swimmer in program history to earn the honor twice.
 
The District II region includes Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island and West Virginia. The be nominated for the Google Cloud Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 or higher cumulative grade point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
 
The Men's At-Large Team consists of athletes from the following sports: fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling. Kuyl now moves on to the national ballot, with the Google Cloud Academic All-America teams set to be announced on June 19.
 
Kuyl will graduate this week with degrees in neuroscience and French and earned Second Team Academic All-America honors as a junior. He has done acoustic analyses of marmoset spectrograms with Dr. Xiaoqin Wang the last three years. In the fall of 2016, Kuyl did a 3D reconstruction of a marmoset brain. He has also been an assistant program coordinator for the Wild Earth Wilderness Program since June 2010. 
 
Kuyl earned the maximum seven All-America honors at the NCAA Championships in each of the last two years and boasts 19 All-America honors in his career. In addition, he has finished in the top three at NCAAs six times, including four runner-up finishes. Kuyl has led Hopkins to four straight fourth-place finishes at the NCAA Championships. He holds the school record in the 100 Back and boasts nine of the 10 fastest times in the event in program history. He is also a member of the school-record 200 and 400 Medley Relay teams.
