LANCASTER, PA – Six members of the Johns Hopkins men's tennis team combined to earn nine All-Centennial Conference honors it was announced Thursday morning. The nine selections are the most in the conference this season and tie the Hopkins' program record.
Hopkins has now produced 109 All-Centennial Conference selections since the league's inception in 1994. Eighty-eight of those selections have since head coach
Chuck Willenborg took over the program in 2005.
Earning All-Centennial Conference honors for singles are freshmen
Naevin Anukornchaikul,
Brian Wang and
Eric Burrer and sophomores
Jack Hogan and
Matt Lurie. Wang, Burrer, Hogan and sophomore
Alex Matisse garnered all-conference doubles honors. In addition, junior
Joe Cartledge was named to the Centennial All-Sportsmanship Team.
Anukornchaikul earns First Team All-Centennial Conference honors in singles, becoming just the seventh player in program history to do so. This is the third straight year that a Blue Jay freshman has done so. Anukornchaikul is 9-4 in singles and went 5-0 in conference play.
Wang earns second team honors for singles and honorable mention for doubles. Burrer earns second team honors for both singles and doubles. They are just the fourth and fifth freshmen in program history to earn all-conference honors in both singles and doubles. Wang is 9-2 in singles (6-0 in conference) and 7-3 in doubles (5-0 in conference). Burrer is also 9-2 in singles (6-0 in conference) and 7-3 in doubles (5-0 in conference).
Matisse grabs second team all-conference honors for doubles after going 9-4 on the season, including 6-0 in league play. This is his second straight all-conference honor for doubles. Hogan takes home honorable mention accolades for both singles and doubles. He is 6-2 in singles (4-0 in conference) and 7-4 in doubles (6-1 in conference). Lurie earns honorable mention all-conference for singles after earning first team a year ago. He is 10-3 on the season and went 6-1 in conference play.
Cartledge, who just earned a bid to the NCAA Doubles Championship, is 7-3 on the season in singles and 13-5 in doubles. He is tied for 21
st in school history with 43 career doubles wins. He is also 24
th with 66 combined wins.
