The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins women's fencing team went 7-0 on the day to claim its second straight and eighth overall Eastern Women's Fencing Conference (EWFC) Championship. In addition, the Blue Jays swept Epee, Foil and Sabre squad championships as well as the Epee, Foil and Sabre individual championships. In addition, Hopkins placed eight fencers on the all-conference team. Â

How it Happened • Team Championship
Hopkins opened the championships in dominating fashion, beating CCNY in the opening round without dropping a bout. The Blue Jays then beat Hunter, 26-1, in round two. Hopkins followed with a 23-4 win over Haverford, led by the Sabre (9-0) and Foil (8-1) squads.
JHU followed with another impressive win, beating Yeshiva, 26-1, in round four. The Blue Jays then beat the Drew Rangers 22-5, with the Foil squad going unbeaten. The toughest match of the day came in round six, as Hopkins beat Stevens, 18-9. The Blue Jays wrapped up the championship with a 20-7 win over the Vassar Brewers.

How it Happened • Individual Championship
Junior
Brooke Stanicki won the Foil championship by going 4-0. She defeated Vassar's Zoe Tolbert, 5-4, in the finals. Herman won her first two bouts before falling to Stanicki in the semifinals, while sophomore
Erika Wong also won two bouts before losing in the semifinals to Tolbert.
Junior
Shaina Morris won the Epee championship with four wins, including a 5-1 win over Chloe Chinnadurai of Vassar in the finals. Freshman
Alexandra Szewc went 2-1, falling in the semifinals to Chinnadurai. Senior
Shivani Bisen lost her first-round bout.
Senior
Erin Chen claimed the Sabre championship with four wins and she beat classmate
Alicja Tomaszewski, 5-2, in the finals. Tomaszewski finished with a 3-1 record in the individual championships. Sophomore
Cecila Taylor won her first bout but then lost to Tomaszewski in the second round.

What it Means
• All eight of the Blue Jays' EWFC Championships have come in the last 11 years. This is the first time that JHU has won all three weapons championships in the same year. Hopkins has now won seven Sabre titles, including four straight. JHU has now won three straight Foil titles and seven overall. This is just the third Epee title for the Blue Jays and first since 2017.
• Stanicki is the third Blue Jay to win the Foil championship and first since 2011. Morris is the fourth Epee champion for Hopkins and the first since 2015. Chen wins her third Sabre championship and this is the fifth title for the Blue Jays. Chen is the only three-time EWFC Champion, in any weapon, for Hopkins. Â
• Morris earned her 200
th career win and now ranks 10
th in school history among all weapons with 212 career wins. Among Epeeists, she ranks third in school history. Stanicki needs just nine wins to reach 200 for her career.
• Herman picked up her 100
th career win and is now tied for 13
th among Foilists. Tomaszewski meanwhile, moved into fourth in school history with 225 career Sabre wins. In addition, she is seventh among all weapons in career wins.
