Barger, Harrison and Meyer Named 2022 Women's Lacrosse Captains

BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse coach Janine Tucker announced today that graduate student midfielders Keegan Barger and Shelby Harrison and senior defender Annika Meyer have been selected in a vote by their teammates as captains for the 2022 season.

"Our team is in great hands with Keegan, Shelby and Annika as our captains," said Tucker. "They exemplify the cornerstones of our team culture - attitude, mindset and work ethic and contribute every day to the success of our program. They are positive, hard-working servant-leaders dedicated to their teammates and coaches and I am grateful to have them leading the charge in this very special year."

Barger, who served as the Blue Jays' lone captain in 2021, is the 18th player in program history to be a two-time captain. She is also the first to do so since Dene' DiMartino in 2015-16. Barger has started every game of her career (59) and is among the program's leader in draw controls and caused turnovers. She is seventh in school history with 142 career draws and tied for 12th with 62 caused turnovers. Barger also holds the school single-game record with seven caused turnovers. She posted career highs in goals (6) and assists (4) in 2021 and has totaled 15 goals, six assists and 84 ground balls in her career.

Harrison, a two-time All-Big Ten selection returns as one of the top draw specialists in the 46-year history of the program. She ranks third in JHU history with 236 career draws and needs just 31 to tie DiMartino's school record. Her 4.00 draws per game for her career (59 games) is a program record. Harrison has led the Blue Jays in draws in each of her four seasons and is just the third player in school history to do so. She holds the school-record for draws in a game (11) and has five of the top-10 draw performances in school history. Harrison has also tallied 56 goals, including 27 free position goals, and 65 points in her career.

Meyer returns after earning First Team All-Big Ten and USA Lacrosse Honorable Mention All-America honors last season. She led the Blue Jays, ranked second in the Big Ten and tied for 16th in the nation in ground balls (45). In addition, she was second on the team and third in the Big Ten with 28 caused turnovers. Meyer helped the Blue Jay defense lead the league in caused turnovers (10.00) and ranked second in scoring defense.
