Milliman Announces 2022 Men's Lacrosse Schedule

Blue Jays Open 14-Game Schedule against Jacksonville on February 5

BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse coach Pete Milliman announced the Blue Jays' 2022 schedule today; the 14-game schedule includes seven home games, seven away games, five Big Ten regular season games and one scrimmage.

Final game times for several games and television schedules will be announced at a later date. Today's announced schedule includes the weekend each game is scheduled, but the exact dates may also change within that weekend (Friday-Sunday).

"After playing a Big Ten-only schedule in 2021, we are very excited to announce our 2022 schedule, which includes a full slate of non-conference games to help prepare us for league play," Milliman noted.  "Playing the strongest schedule in the nation will always be a priority at Johns Hopkins; with the strength of the Big Ten and the nine non-conference games we have scheduled, I think our fans will be excited to see the Blue Jays compete this coming year."

The Blue Jays will open their 2022 season with their first-ever game against Jacksonville, which will visit Homewood Field on February 5.   Johns Hopkins will play four more games in February with road trips to Towson (Feb. 11), Georgetown (Feb. 13) and North Carolina (Feb. 26) wrapped around a home game against Loyola (Feb. 19).

Johns Hopkins will flip the calendar to March and open with four games in a span of 15 days.  A road trip to Charlottesville to take on two-time defending national champion Virginia kicks off the month (Mar. 5) before the Blue Jays return home to take on Syracuse (Mar. 12) and Navy (Mar. 18) in a six-day span.  The Blue Jays will then visit Delaware two days after the game against Navy (Mar. 20).

Big Ten play will open on the final weekend of March, when Johns Hopkins hosts Michigan (Mar. 26) for Homecoming.  Back-to-back road trips to Rutgers (Apr. 3) and Ohio State (Apr. 9/10) will be followed by home games against Penn State (Apr. 16) and Maryland (Apr. 23) to close out the regular season.

As they did in 2021, all six teams in the Big Ten will qualify for the 2022 Big Ten Tournament.  The top two teams in the final league standing will earn a bye into the semifinals with the teams that finish third through sixth playing quarterfinal games on Saturday, April 30.  The number three and four seeds in the tournament will host those quarterfinal games.

Johns Hopkins' 14 regular season opponents compiled a 121-71 (.630) record in 2021 with its nine non-conference opponents rolling up an 86-43 (.667) record.  In addition, seven of the 14 qualified for the NCAA Tournament with three advancing to the semifinals and two meeting in the national championship game.

To prepare for the 2022 season, Milliman and the Blue Jays will travel to Denver on January 29 for a scrimmage against the Pioneers.

For the first time since 1944, the Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse schedule does not include a regular season game against Princeton.  Adjustments to both teams' schedules created difficulty finding a date that worked for both programs in 2022.  Milliman and Princeton head coach Matt Madalon
