PROVIDENCE, RI– The Johns Hopkins men's swimming team closed out its effort at the three-day Bruno Invitational at Brown University on Sunday with 15 more NCAA qualifying times in six events, including a remarkable seven in one event. With their effort on the final day, the Blue Jays finished in second place with 1,076.5 points; host Brown won the team title with 1,207.5 points, while NYU placed third with 881 points.

In addition to the 15 NCAA marks the Blue Jays hit, they added two school records on the final day. The 15 swims that hit the NCAA standard on Sunday raised Johns Hopkins' three-day total to 44.

Blue Jays Dominate 200 Breast
Of the 15 marks Johns Hopkins posted that met the NCAA qualifying standard, seven came in the 200 Beast, including two that broke the school record.
Max Chen (1:56.6) and
Kyle Wu (1:57.66) went one-two in the event and both broke the previous school record of 1:58.11, which had been set at the 2016 NCAA Championships by Evan Holder, who finished as the national runner-up with that time.

In addition to Chen and Wu, the Blue Jays grabbed spots three-through-seven from
Brandon Stride (1:59.25),
Justin Limberg (1:59.95),
Joe Castagno (2:00.59 ) and
Eric Ji (2:00.88) in the "A" Final, while
Mitchell List (2:03.12) also came in under the NCAA standard of 2:04.80 with his third-place finish in the "B" Final.

JHU Nearly as Dominant in 200 Fly
The Blue Jays had three of the top five and four of the top eight finishers in the 200 Fly with the top three all hitting the NCAA standard of 1:50.85.

Jeff Vitek touched home at 1:47.05 to place first and lead the way for Hopkins. His mark is the third best in school history and he now owns the top three events in school history in the event.

Chris Seymour (1:49.04) and
Jonik Surprenant (1:49.05) were both also more than a second-and-a-half under the NCAA mark with their fourth and fifth-place finishes, while
CJ Arena (1:52.61) was Hopkins' fourth finisher in the top eight.

Notes – Wachenfeld's time not only won the event by more than a second-and-a-half, it also broke the previous Johns Hopkins record of 1:46.01. He is the first JHU swimmer to break 1:46.00 in the event.
