FAIRFAX, VA - For the second weekend in a row,
Ariel Keklak and
Ella Baran performed phenomenally to lead the Blue Jay bunch to a strong weekend at the Mason Spring Invitaional. Competing against Division I competition, Hopkins had multiple runners post outstanding national times, led by the top-five national efforts from Keklak and Baran. In the 5,000, Baran earned the victory by nearly 23 seconds, posting a time of 16:40.85. Baran's time is currently second nationally at the Division III level. Keklak performed similarly in the 1,500. The senior placed fifth in the event with a time of 4:31.57, the third-fastest time nationally among DIII women.
Other Notable Performances
- Joining Keklak with a very strong performance in the 1,500 was fellow senior Therese Olshanski. The Mountain Lakes, NJ native finished ninth in the event with a time of 4:38.88. The time has her firmly in contention to qualify for NCAA's as she ranks seventh nationally at the DIII level. Freshman Paloma Hancock jumped into the top-25 nationally in the 1,500 with a time of 4:45.03.
- Victoria Kadiri continued her fantastic start as a Johns Hopkins athlete. The freshman placed fourth in the long jump, breaking her own freshman record from the week prior with a mark of 5.66m. The leap would place her in the top-five nationally at the DIII level.
- Ashley Heidenrich had a fantastic weekend, entering the top-25 in the 5,000. Heidenrich placed ninth in the 5,000, earning the 24th-fastest time nationally with a time of 17:55.10.
- Annie Gutierrez picked up a top-15 national mark in the pole vault after tying for fifth in the event. Gutierrez's vault of 3.53m places her 13th nationally.
- Mickey Van Gieson performed well on the men's side for Johns Hopkins, posting a 200m time of 22.14 to put him in the top-35 nationally and give him the top time in the Centennial Conference to this point.
- Matthew Kleiman earned a top-15 national time in the 5,000, joining Jared Pangallozzi and Alex Glavin after their performances a week ago. The sophomore ran the 5K in 14:52.39, good for 13th nationally at the DIII level. Joshua Derrick sits just outside of the top-20 nationally with his effort at the Mason Spring Invitational, crossing the finish line in 14:55.68, just 11 tenths of a second out of the top-20.
