NEW ORLEANS – The 2021 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Regional Awards were released this morning with multiple Blue Jays being honored.
Jared Pangallozzi,
Annie Gutierrez,
Bobby Van Allen and
Alex Jebb were honored by the USTFCCCA.
Pangallozzi, a senior distance runner from Maplewood, NJ, earned the Mideast Region Men's Track Athlete of the Year award. Pangallozzi is just the second Blue Jay male to earn Region Track Athlete of the Year, joining
Andrew Carey (2014). The New Jersey native broke the school record and the Centennial Conference record in the 10,000 earlier this season at the Virginia Challenge. Jared crossed the finish line in 29:20.29, breaking a seven-year old program record by 45 seconds and a nine-year old conference record by nearly 26 seconds. Pangallozzi will compete in the 5,000 and the 10,000 this week in Greensboro, NC.
Gutierrez, a senior multis athlete from Coral Gables, FL, was named Mideast Region Women's Field Athlete of the Year. A standout member of the JHU Track & Field teams for the last four years, Gutierrez is also the second woman in program history to earn the award, joining
Maya Hammonds (2019). Gutierrez holds multiple school records including a 3.82m pole vault that has her seeded sixth for this week's NCAA Championships. Gutierrez will also compete in the heptathlon, an event she is currently seeded 11
th in.
Van Allen, the 22
nd-year head man of the Blue Jay programs was named the Mideast Region Women's Coach of the Year for the fifth time in his storied career. Van Allen's team has seven NCAA qualifiers competing across 10 events this week in Greensboro, NC.
Jebb, a fifth-year assistant, was named Mideast Region Women's Assistant Coach of the Year. This is Jebb's first Women's Outdoor honor after being named Mideast Indoor Assistant Coach of the Year on the women's side in 2018. A jumps/multis coach, Jebb's athletes scored over 100 points for the Jays at the Centennial Championships and earned two NCAA qualifying spots.
Johns Hopkins was one of seven programs to rack up over 40 NCAA DIII Outdoor Track & Field All-Region honors.
On the men's side, Hopkins racked up 24 All-Region honors across 13 athletes
