The Yu's opened with a 3-0 win over Mount St. Mary's Pablo Zuccardi and Jacob Berg. The Blue Jays won the doubles match, 6-1, top kick off the match. James then beat Berg 6-1, 6-0 and Thomas defeated Zuccardi 6-2, 6-2 in singles. The Yu's then beat Colin Corsini and Oliver Davey of Loyola, 3-0. They took the doubles match by a 6-1 score. James defeated Corsini 6-1, 6-4 and Thomas defeated Davey 6-1, 6-3 to advance to the semifinals.
In the semifinals, the Yu's beat Giovanni Abriola and Elliot Stevens of Mount St. Mary's, 3-0. The JHU pair won the doubles match 6-3 to grab the early lead. James then beat Abriola 6-3, 6-3 while Thomas beat Stevens 6-3, 6-0. The Yu's won the invitational with a 3-0 win over Mount St. Mary's Filippos Zachiotis and Jarrett Karnibad, 3-0. Hopkins won the doubles point with a 6-3 win. James followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Karnibad and Thomas rallied to defeat Zachiotis 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (7).
Ardila and sophomore
Rohan Reddy opened with a 3-0 win over the Mount's Russell Armstrong and Marcel Cronin. The Blue Jays picked up the doubles' point with a 6-3 win. Reddy then beat Armstrong 6-3, 6-1 and Ardila beat Cronin 6-1, 6-1. Ardila and Burrer then beat Filip Bazant and Mathius Dessureau of Harford Community College, 2-1. JHU took a 1-0 lead with a 6-2 win in doubles. Ardila put the Blue Jays up 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Dessureau. Bazant picked up a point for the Owls with a 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (3) win over Burrer.
In the semifinals, Ardila and Burrer fell 2-1 to Karnibad and Zachiotis. The duo from Mount St. Mary's took the first point with a 6-3 win in doubles. Karnibad then beat Burrer 6-4, 6-1 in singles while Ardila prevailed in three sets over Zachiotis 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (5). Ardila and Burrer then lost to Stevens and Ariola, 2-1 in the third-place match. The Mount pair won the doubles point with a 6-4 decision. Ardila then beat Stevens 6-2, 6-4 but an Abriola win over Burrer 6-4, 6-2 gave the match to the Mount.
Hellinger and Kernagis dropped their opening match to George Cavo and Skyler Gates of Loyola, 3-0. The Greyhound duo won the doubles match by a 6-4 score. In singles, Gates beat Hellinger 6-2, 6-4 and Cavo beat Kernagis 6-3, 6-1. In the consolation quarterfinals, Hellinger and Kernagis beat Loyola's Tyler Mast and Gustavo Rotundo, 2-1. The Blue Jay took the doubles point with a 6-0 win. Kernagis secured the win with a 6-2, 7-5 defeat of Mast, while Gustavo beat Hellinger 7-6, 6-4.
Hellinger and Kernagis then beat Ryan Isgett and Berg, 3-0, in the consolation semifinals. The Blue Jays won the doubles match, 6-1. Hellinger then came from behind to beat Isgett 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (3) while Kernagis won after Berg withdrew due to injury. The pair squared off against Azar and Tran in the ninth-place match. Azar and Tran won the doubles match, 6-3, and the singles matches were not played.
Azar and Tran lost their opening match to Matt Cardano and Edik Pribitkin of Loyola, 2-1. The Blue Jay duo won the doubles match, 7-5. Cardano then beat Azar 6-1, 6-4 and Pribitkin beat Tran 7-5, 7-5 in singles. In the consolation draw, the JHU pair beat Michael Francis and Whata of Harford Community College, 3-0. The Blue Jays won 6-0 in doubles to grab the early lead. Azar then swept Francis 6-0, 6-0 while Tran beat Whata 6-1, 6-1.
In the consolation semifinals, Tran and Azar beat Armstrong and Cronin, 3-0. The Blue Jays won the doubles match with a 6-2 score. Azar then beat Cronin 6-4, 6-2 and Tran beat Armstrong 6-3, 6-1 in singles.
Hopkins wraps up the fall portion of its schedule this weekend at the ITA Southeast Regional in Fredericksburg, VA.
