James and
Thomas Yu advanced to the semifinals of the 2022 ITA Cup this weekend. In addition,
Thomas Yu advanced to the quarterfinals in singles.
The Yus were unseeded in the draw and opened the weekend with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Jeff Wright and Sean Pesin (Hobart). The duo then upset top-seeded Abhi Ramireddy and Phuc Huynh (Washington University) 6-4, 6-4. Their run ended in the semifinals to third-seeded Vishwa Aduru and James Hopper (Case Western) 7-6 (2), 6-2.
In singles,
Thomas Yu was seeded third. He beat Emil Grantcharov (Chicago) 6-2, 7-6 (5) in the opening round. He then fell to Advik Mareedu (Claremont-Mudd-Scripps) 6-2, 7-6 (0). Mareedu went on to win the singles championship.
The Yus are just the second Blue Jay doubles team to make the semifinals of the ITA Cup (formerly the ITA National Small College Championships).
