GRANVILLE, OH – Johns Hopkins men's swimming freshmen
Matthew Hartshorn and
Avery Clapp broke a pair of freshman records to highlight day two at the Denison Invitational. The Blue Jays also had three top-three finishes, 10 NCAA B times as well as 11 career-best times.
Hopkins got things going with a third-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of senior

Spencer Ryan swam a 1:29.79. Hartshorn turned in his record-breaking swim in the prelims as he paced the field with a time of 3:54.64. His prelim time is also the third fastest overall in JHU history. He then finished in seventh place in the A final with a 3:58.17. Sophomore
Joe Castagno, who had held the freshman record in the 400 IM, touched just one-hundredth of a second later for eighth place.
Clapp broke his own freshman record in the 100 Fly with his prelim time of 47.72. That is also the sixth fastest time in program history. Freshman
Andrew Huang placed third in the B final with a time of 50.53, while classmate
Shawn Zhou placed seventh in 51.58. Sophomore
Daniel Byrnes took fourth in the A final of the 200 Free as he finished in 1:39.79. Junior
Kellen Roddy followed in eighth place with a 1:40.13. Sophomore
Eric Ji placed fourth in the B final in 1:40.90 and junior
Jay Heymann finished in seventh in 1:42.46.
In the 100 Breast, three Blue Jays placed three swimmers in the A final and two in the B final. Senior
Kyle Wu led the way with a swim of 54.45 for fourth place. Senior
Brandon Stride finished in seventh (55.38) and Limberg placed ninth (56.47). In the B final, Ryan took fourth place with a time of 57.01 while sophomore
Nathan Jin took sixth in 57.66.
Rua finished in seventh place in the A final of the 100 Back as he touched in 49.85, followed by Clapp in eighth (50.01). Freshman
Bryce Lloyd won the B final as he swam a 49.63. Hopkins finished the night with a runner-up finish in the 800 Free Relay. Wu, Byrnes, Roddy and Lloyd combined for a time of 6:38.709.
The Denison Invitational concludes on Saturday, December 3. The prelims begin at 10:00 am with the 200 Back. The finals are slated to begin at 6:00 pm.
