Thomas Yu have been selected for the 2022 NCAA Singles Championship it was announced Wednesday night.
For the individual championships, the national committee selected a percentage of singles players and doubles teams from each of the eight regions. The individual championships consist of 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams. The selection of teams and individuals for the championships is based on won-lost record, strength of schedule and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.
The team championship will take place May 23-25, while the individual championships will be May 27-29, both at USTA National Campus, Orlando, FL; hosted by the United States Tennis Association, Oglethorpe University, and the Greater Orlando Sports Commission.
Hopkins has now had 19 players selected to the NCAA Singles Championship and has had at least one selection in each of the last five championships. This is the fifth time that two Blue Jays have been selected for the singles championship.
This is Yu's first selection to the NCAA Singles Championship. He is ranked second in the Atlantic South and boasts a 26-5 record. His 26 singles wins this season a school record. Yu is 7-1 against regionally ranked opponents and 6-2 against players selected to the singles championship. He is tied for 24
th in school history with 34 career singles wins.
Joshi is selected to the singles championship for the fourth time, making him just the second player in program history to do so. He is 11-2 this season and 55-20 in his career. He ranks eighth in program history in career singles wins. Joshi also ranks 11
th with 107 combined wins in his career. He is ranked eighth in the region in singles and is 1-1 against regionally ranked opponents and is 0-1 versus player selected to the championship.
