BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins sophomore
Thomas Yu has been named the Centennial Conference Player of the Year it was announced this morning. In addition, the Blue Jays produced four all-conference honorees.
Yu also earned First Team All-Centennial honors in singles and doubles. Sophomore
Daniel Ardila (first team doubles) and junior
Andrew Tran (second team singles) joined Yu on the all-conference team. In addition, sophomore
Rohan Reddy was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
Yu is the third player in Centennial Conference history and second Blue Jay to earn Player of the Year honors after earning Rookie of the Year honors the season before. He is the sixth Blue Jay to be named CC Player of the Year and second consecutive. Hopkins has now produced 64 All-CC selections in singles and 62 doubles selections.
Yu broke the program records for singles wins (26) and became the first player in program history to win 50 total matches (26 singles, 24 doubles) in a season. In addition, he is one of just four players to have 20 singles wins and 20 doubles wins in the same season. He is ranked second in the Atlantic South in singles and is ranked fourth with Ardila in doubles. The pair are 6-2 overall and 4-0 in Centennial Conference matches. Ardila is 20-6 overall in doubles this season and his 20 wins are second most on the team.
Tran earns all-conference honors for the second time and is 16-8 in singles this season. He has won three straight and five of his last six matches. Tran is also 10-4 in doubles this season with a 2-0 record in conference matches. Reddy boasts a 9-5 record in singles and 18-3 mark in doubles this season. His 18 wins rank third on the team.
