PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team faced off against North Carolina and fifth-ranked Princeton on day one of the Philadelphia Invitational. Freshman
Spencer Grossman Smisek led the Blue Jays with four wins.
Hopkins lost a close contest with North Carolina, 15-12, including a tight 5-4 win in the Sabre. Junior
William Hu won all three of his bouts, including the clinching win, in the Sabre. Senior
Sachin Mehta and junior
Qilin Tong each won one bout. The Foil squad lost a tough 5-4 decision to the Tar Heels. Grossman Smisek and sophomore
Alan Zheng won two bouts each in the loss. The Epee squad lost 6-3, with junior
Gabe Insler earning two wins.
JHU then took on Princeton, with the Tigers winning 18-9. Mehta, senior
