HAVERFORD, PA – The Johns Hopkins women's fencing team cruised to four wins at the D'Arnstein Invitational Saturday at Haverford. The Blue Jays earned wins Maryland, Bryn Mawr, Haverford and Drexel.
Hopkins kicked off the day with a 27-0 win over Maryland. Sophomore
Adelaide Benoit and freshmen
Adele Dai and
Ky McSweeney combined for nine wins to lead the Sabre squad to a win. The Terps did not field Foil or Epee squads.
JHU then beat Bryn Mawr by the same 27-0 score. Benoit, Dai and sophomore
Josephine Chang won three bouts each in a 9-0 win for the Sabre squad. In the Foil, senior
Jasmine Shen and sophomores
Rosy Cepero and
Bethany Lee did the same. Senior
Diya Kulkarni, junior
Katelyn McShine and freshman
Janie McSweeney also won three bouts apiece for the Epee squad.
The Blue Jays followed with a 26-1 win over the host Fords. Chang and freshmen
Victoria Li and
Lauren Prieur led the Sabre squad to a 9-0 win. Lee and freshman
Julianna Wu won three bouts each to lead the Foil squad to an 8-1 win. McShine, Kulkarni and sophomore
Mickey Zhang combined for nine wins for the Epee squad.
Hopkins ended the day with a 27-0 win over Drexel. Dai, Prieur and
Ky McSweeney combined for nine wins in the Sabre. Lee, Wu and senior
Czarina Alfonso did the same for the Foil squad. Zhang,
Janie McSweeney and sophomore
Marlene Schaff also combined for nine wins for the Epee squad.
Hopkins returns to action on January 19-20 at the Philadelphia Invitational.
