LEWISBURG, PA – Sophomore
Avery Clapp broke his own school record in the 200 Fly and the Johns Hopkins men's swim team posted eight NCAA B cuts and seven career-best swims on the final day of the Bucknell Invitational. The Blue Jays finished in fifth place and totaled 19 NCAA cuts and 21 career-best times over the three-day meet.
Senior
Kellen Roddy kicked off the final day with a second-place finish in the 1650 Free. He finished in 15:20.93, the 10
th fastest time in program history and an NCAA B cut. Sophomore
Matthew Hartshorn placed 11
th with a career-best swim of 16:12.81. Sophomore
Bryce Lloyd then took fifth place in the 200 Back with a time of 1:51.15. His prelim time of 1:48.49 is an NCAA B time. Senior
Alex Ren placed third in the B Final with a time of 1:53.98.
Freshman
Adam Sandid finished in fourth place in the C Final of the 100 Free with a career-best swim of 46.25. Junior
Daniel Byrnes followed in sixth place in a time of 46.92. The Blue Jays then dominated the 200 Breast. Graduate student
Brandon Stride won the event as he clocked in with a time of 2:00.44. Graduate student
Ike Shirakata followed in second place in 2:00.69, while his prelim time of 2:00.51 is a career best. Junior
Eric Ji placed fifth (2:01.35), classmate
Joe Castagno placed sixth (2:01.53) and senior
Justin Limberg placed seventh (2:01.95). In the C Final, junior
Nathan Jin took third place (2:05.95) and classmate
Mitchell List took eighth (2:11.96). Stride, Shirakata, Ji, Castagno and Limberg all posted NCAA B cuts while Shirakata and Jin turned in career-best swims.
Clapp followed with his record-breaking swim in the 200 Fly. He shaved more than one second off his own record when he took second with a time of 1:45.53. Freshman
Rad Couture finished in sixth place with a career-best time of 1:51.17. Sophomore
Andrew Huang finished in eighth place with a time of 1:52.07. Junior
Jonik Surprenant placed fifth in the B Final with a time of 1:52.94. Freshman
Will Dunlap took fifth in the C Final in 1:54.37 and Ide took eighth in 1:55.18.
Hopkins closed out the weekend with a fifth-place finish in the 400 Free Relay. Lloyd, Clapp, Sandid and Byrnes combined for a time of 3:02.01. In addition, Lloyd's lead-off leg of 45.81 is a career-best.
Hopkins returns to action on January 13 at the Carnegie Mellon Quad Meet.
