PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team earned wins over Stevens and St. John's on Sunday at the Temple Invitational. With the win over the Ducks, the Blue Jays eclipsed the program's single-season wins record and is now 28-13 overall.
Hopkins opened the day with a 21-6 loss to sixth-ranked Penn. Senior

Qilin Tong won one bout each in a 7-2 loss for the Sabre squad. Sophomore
Alan Zheng earned the lone win for the Foil squad and freshman
Matthew Dao led the Epee squad (3-6) with two wins.
JHU then beat Stevens 16-11, fueled by an 8-1 win for the Foil squad. Tong won all three of his bouts but the Sabre squad dropped a tough 5-4 decision. Zheng and freshman
Spencer Grossman Smisek each went 3-0 to lead the Foil squad. And in the Epee, junior
Gabe Insler won a pair in a tough 5-4 loss.
The Blue Jays followed that with a 17-10 win over the St. John's Red Storm. Tong and freshmen

Alex Jeffords each earned a win in a 6-3 loss. Zheng and Grossman Smisek again combined for six wins as the Foil squad won 8-1. Freshman
Jorge Gana went 3-0 to lead the Epee squad to a 6-3 win.
Hopkins then fell to second-ranked Princeton, 17-10. The Sabre squad lost another closer one, 5-4, with Cai picking up two wins. Zheng and Grossman Smisek won one bout apiece in a 7-2 loss for the Foil squad. Insler and Dao earned two wins each in a close 5-4 loss for the Epee squad.
JHU wrapped up the day with an 18-9 loss to seventh-ranked Penn State. Cai, Tong and DeScherer each won twice as the Sabre squad grabbed a 6-3 win. Zheng picked up both wins for the Foil squad in a 7-2 loss. Senior
Danny Comer earned the lone point for the Epee squad in an 8-1 loss.
Hopkins returns to action on Sunday, March 5 at the MACFA Championships.
