Six Blue Jays Selected to D3baseball.com All-Region Team

Cooper, Babb Honored With Individual Awards

BALTIMORE, MD- The D3baseball.com All-Region Teams were announced yesterday and several members of the Johns Hopkins baseball team earned a spot on the roster. Since D3baseball.com started announcing all-region teams in 2012, the six players selected this season is a record for the program.

Cooper Wins Regional Player of the Year

Matthew Cooper was selected as the Region V Player of the Year after his phenomenal senior campaign. Cooper is the team and conference leader in all three triple crown categories. He's smashed the school's previous single-season home run record, which was 18, with 24 so far on the season. He leads the country in home runs and is tied fir eighth in RBI with 67. He is now a two-time D3baseball.com All-Region selection and on the first team for the first team. He is just the school's second Region V Player of the Year, joining Connor Reynolds who won it in 2017.

Babb Honored as Coach of the Year

Bob Babb is now a three-time regional coach of the year after leading his squad to a 44-5 record to this point and a number one ranking in the country.

Cooper Joined By Steuerer and Romano on First Team

Sophomore third baseman Shawn Steuerer finds himself on the first team after being a second team selection last season. Steuerer is second on the team in batting average at .420. He's also jacked 16 home runs and driven in 55 to be a key piece in the Blue Jays line up. His 55 RBI are tied for the 11th-most in a season in program history.

Romano has been the ace of the Blue Jays staff all-season and is the lone pitcher for JHU on the first team. He's pitched to an 10-1 record with a 1.76 ERA in 82 innings pitched. Romano has tossed three complete games this season, all coming in the postseason. He racked up a career-high 10 strikeouts against Franklin & Marshall in the Centennial Conference Tournament.

Keever, Collins and Shane Selected to Second and Third Teams

Ben Keever was the only JHU player on the second All-Region team. Keever has been solid out of the bullpen for Johns Hopkins with a 2.20 ERA over 28.2 innings. Keever has 35 strikeouts, which leads all Blue Jay relievers and opponents are hitting just .202 against him.

Kieren Collins wrapped up a solid senior season to earn his first D3baseball.com All-Region selection on the third team. Collins pitched to a 6-0 record this season with a 3.22 ERA in a career-high 58.2 innings pitched. Collins has punched out 41 batters this season. He now holds a 16-3 record with a 3.10 ERA in his career at Johns Hopkins.

Alex Shane wraps up the awards for Johns Hopkins on the All-Region team being selected to the third team as well. He joins his teammate Steuerer as the only other freshman to be selected to the all-region squad. Shane is batting .418 on the season with 10 doubles and 29 RBIs at the top of the Blue Jay lineup.


The Blue Jays will begin their quest to win the programs first ever Division III College World Series on Friday at 11 am (EST) when they take on Misericordia in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
