FREDERICKSBURG, VA – The Johns Hopkins men's tennis team had five singles players and one doubles team advance to the round of 16 at the ITA Southeast Championship Friday.
Sophomore
Joshua Kim opened with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Gettysburg's Michael Fellman. He then topped Jovan Cirkovic (Shenandoah) 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the round of 16. Senior
Daniel Ardila beat Alex Donnelly (Averett) 7-6 (5), 6-2 in his first-round match. He followed that with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Jhayden Pappas (Salisbury) to move on to the round of 16.
Sophomore
Allen Gong lost just two games in his first-round win over Gianluca Beajuon (Salisbury). He then won 6-2, 6-2 over Rishi Verma (Swarthmore) to move into the round of 16. Sophomore
Prem Dave won a tight 6-4, 6-4 match over Zac Ashtiani (Franklin & Marshall) in the opening round. He then beat Vivekraj Harinarayan (Stevens) 6-1, 7-6 (7) in the round of 32.
Sophomore
Pranav Gadiraju did not lose a game in his opening-round win over Nick Rohr (St. Mary's). He then won 6-4, 6-1 over Felix Bevc (Virginia Wesleyan) to advance to the round of 16. Graduate student
Mason Liu rallied to beat Heys Parker (Washington & Lee) 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (6) in the opening round. He then lost to Levi Vigdorchik (Lynchburg) 6-3, 6-2 in the round of 32.
Liu and Gadiraju had a first-round bye and then defeated Bevc and Ole Behrmann (Virginia Wesleyan), 8-6, to advance to Saturday's round of 16. Dave and Kim opened the tournament with an 8-7 (3) win over Artem Babaiev and Cirkovic (Shenandoah). The pair then fell 8-4 to Carnegie Mellon's Daniel Kong and Jangbahadur.
Ardila and Gong also had a first-round bye. The duo lost their match in the round of 32 to Edvard Porsmyr Hansen and Ashton Legum (Christopher Newport), 8-5.
The doubles draw is set to resume play at 8:00 am on Saturday, September 30. The singles matches are scheduled for a 12:30 pm start.
