FREDERICKSBURG, VA – Johns Hopkins sophomore
Allen Gong advanced to the semifinals of the ITA Southeast Championships Saturday afternoon.
Gong had a close first match on Saturday as he beat Artis Hart (Mary Washington) 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the quarterfinals against classmate
Prem Dave. He also won a hard-fought match over Marko Arboleda (Haverford) 7-5, 7-5 to set up the meeting with Gong.
Sophomore
Joshua Kim fell to top-seeded Michael Melnikov (Swarthmore) in closely contested 6-4, 6-4 match in the round of 16. Senior
Daniel Ardila dropped his first match Saturday to fifth-seeded Raghav Jangbahadur (Carnegie Mellon) 6-3, 6-3. Sophomore
Pranav Gadiraju fell in the round of 16 to second-seeded Evan Erb (Washington & Lee) 6-3, 6-3.
In the doubles' draw, Gadiraju and graduate student
Mason Liu lost a tough 8-7 (4) match to eighth-seeded Arboleda and Stefan Johnson in the round of 16.
Gong returns to action on Sunday, October 1 in the semifinals of the championship draw in singles. This is the fifth straight year that a Blue Jay has advanced to the semifinals.
