Hopkins Drops a Pair at Virginia Duals - Graber Wins Twice for JHU

Blue Jays Fall to Reinhardt, Marymount

HAMPTON, VA – The Johns Hopkins wrestling team dropped a pair of matches on the first day of the 43rd annual Virginia Duals Friday afternoon.  The Blue Jays fell to NAIA 15th-ranked Reinhardt, 40-4, before dropping a narrow 23-20 decision to Marymount.

The Blue Jays will continue action on Saturday with two more matches.  Hopkins will open against St. Andrews and will then take on either Rowan or Camden County College.

Graber Wins a Pair
Junior Noah Graber went 2-0 on the day at 174 to lead the way for Johns Hopkins.  Graber scored the only Blue Jay victory against Reinhardt as he picked up a 22-8 major decision victory over Caleb Santiago and he added his second major decision of the day by topping Marymount's Mohammed Fofana (17-9).  With the two wins today, three of Graber's four wins this season have come by major decision.

Blue Jays Nearly Overcome Forfeits
Johns Hopkins nearly topped Marymount despite forfeiting at 125 and 149.  In addition to the major decision by Graber, Hopkins got wins by decision from Dhilan Patel (133) and Max Apsel (141), a pin from Jake Hoffman (165) and a major decision from Jack Dunn (197) to pull even at 20-20 entering the final bout.

At 285, the Saints' Brey Loving jumped out to a 9-1 lead on Hopkins' Jacob Pomykata with takedowns in the first, second and third periods.  Pomykata rallied late, but Loving locked up a 10-5 win to secure the 23-20 match victory for Marymount.

Hoffmann Wins 50th
Hoffmann secured the 50th win of his career with the first-period pin of Marymount's Isaac Ponce.  Hoffmann is now 50-22 in his career and 31 of his 50 victories have earned bonus points as he counts 13 major decisions, 10 technical falls and eight pins to his credit.
