Blue Jays Honored After Season-Opening Weekend

LANCASTER, PA – The Johns Hopkins men's and women's track teams swept the Centennial Conference Athlete of the Week awards after the Blue Jays turned in several outstanding season-opening performances over the weekend.  The Blue Jays divided their teams in three locations with representation at Boston University, Navy and Ursinus.

Leblond shattered the Johns Hopkins and Centennial Conference records in the 5000 meters at Boston University. He became just the seventh runner in Division III history to break the 14-minute mark as he crossed in 13:54.45. He broke his own previous school record of 14:17.68 and took down the previous Centennial record of 14:02.37. Leblond's time is tops in the nation after the opening weekend of the indoor season.

Roy opened the indoor season by winning the 5,000 meters at the Ursinus Bow Tie Invitational.  Roy crossed in 17:33.93, which ranks 21st in the nation.  Roy led a dominant effort for the Blue Jays in the event as Hopkins had nine runners among the top 10 finishers and her mark of 17:33.95 narrowly missed her personal-best time of 17:33.26.

Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week
Erika Ezumba
Ezumba opened the season in dominating fashion as she shattered her own school record in the weight throw. Her throw of 16.26 meters was good for third place and bested her own previous Johns Hopkins record of 15.13m.  In addition to breaking the JHU record, the mark also stands as the third-best in Centennial Conference history and is just the third throw in league history to break 16 meters.
