CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The Johns Hopkins men's swim team wrapped up the Cavalier Invitational by adding five more NCAA cuts and four career-best swims Sunday night.
Bryce Lloyd led the night off with a fourth-place finish and NCAA qualifying time in the 200 Back. He clocked in with a finals swim of 1:47.80.
Alex Ren took sixth place in 1:54.14.
Jay Heymann then led a quintet of Blue Jays in the 100 Free. He finished in seventh place with a swim of 45.65. His prelim time of 45.57 was a career-best.
Adam Sandid took 10
th place in 46.34, followed closely by
Christian Mayr in 11
th (46.53) and
Shawn Zhou in 12
th (47.28).
Andrew Gilbert took 14
th place as he finished in 48.43.
Joe Castagno led the Blue Jays with a third-place finish in the 200 Breast. He turned in an NCAA B cut of 2:00.06.
Eric Ji finished in fourth place with a finals swim of 2:00.61. His prelim time of 1:59.78 is both an NCAA qualifying time and a career-best.
Ike Shirakata finished in eighth place in 2:05.92, while
Mitchell List placed ninth in 2:07.90.
Rad Couture was the top Blue Jay in the 200 Fly as he turned in an NCAA B cut and career-best of 1:50.05 for fifth place.
Reef Ide finished in eighth place with a career-best swim of 1:50.47.
Jonik Surprenant took 11
th place (1:51.37), followed by
Andrew Huang in 13
th (1:52.30) and
Will Dunlap in 16
th (1:57.99).
Hopkins then went one-two in the 400 Free Relay. The team of Lloyd, Heymann, Sandid and Mayr finished in 3:04.37 to win. Zhou, Gilbert, Dunlap and Ide finished in second with a time of 3:08.43.
Daniel Byrnes also turned in an NCAA qualifying time in his 200 Free time trial as he clocked in at 1:39.64.
Hopkins wraps up the regular season on Saturday, February 17 with the annual Blue Jay Invitational. The meet is scheduled for a 1:00 pm start.
