BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins placed three Blue Jays on the 2024 IWLCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region Teams it was announced this afternoon. Senior
Jordan Carr was named first team and senior
Abbey Hurlbrink and sophomore
Ava Angello were named second team.
The three all-region selections are the most for Hopkins since 2021 and bring the program total to 108, including 61 since 1999. Carr is the first Blue Jay to earn first team all-region honors since 2021.
Carr turned in one of the most impressive seasons by a defender in program history. She led the Big Ten and ranked sixth in the nation with 2.60 caused turnovers per game. Carr's 52 total caused turnovers this season are the second most in school history. She also led the Big Ten and ranked 23
rd nationally with 2.80 ground balls per game. She totaled 56 ground balls, the most by a Blue Jay since 2001 and tied for the fifth most in school history. Carr also tallied 48 draw controls, five goals and six points. Her five goals are the third most by a defender in JHU history.
Hurlbrink, a two-way midfielder, totaled 19 goals, 22 assists, 30 ground balls, 52 draws and 10 caused turnovers this season. She ranked second on the team in assists and draw controls. She posted career highs in assists, points, ground balls and caused turnovers. Hurlbrink finished her career ranked seventh in JHU history in career points by a midfielder (111), 10
th in goals by a midfielder (73) and fifth in assists by a midfielder (38). She also ranks seventh in program history with 158 career draw controls.
Angello followed up a stand-out freshman campaign with an even better sophomore season. She led the Blue Jays with 53 goals and 68 points and handed out 15 assists. Angello notched 12 hat tricks in 2024, one shy of the school single-season record. She ranked sixth in the Big Ten in goals per game (2.65) and was eighth in points per game (3.40). Angello notched the 100
th point of her career, in just her 31
st game, and finished the season with 121 career points.
