ALLENTOWN, PA – The Johns Hopkins women's track & field team holds a seven-point lead in the standings after Day 1 of the Centennial Conference Championships. The Blue Jays secured points in all three events that were scored on the day and are in position for more after the first round of heptathlon events.
Abigail Lovelace was the standout in the first four events of the Championship's heptathlon, finishing in the top five in each of them. The freshman opened her weekend with a first-place finish in the high jump with her mark of 1.54 meters, also claiming fourth in the shot put and 100-meter hurdles and fifth in the 200 to sit firmly in third with 2238 points with three events remaining.
Erika Ezumba grabbed two points in the hammer throw with her mark of 40.77 meters before Hopkins' trio of
Cassidy Brown, Sara Caulley Soto and
Bianca Skelton combined for 22.5 points in the pole vault.
Brown was the winner in the event, finishing atop the leaderboard with a season-best height of 3.27 meters. The junior was followed closely by Caulley Soto, whose mark of 3.12 meters earned the sophomore second, with Skelton's height of 2.97 meters earning her a tie for fourth.
Day 1 came to a close with the 10,000 in which
Anna Warmack was the lone finisher for the Blue Jays, crossing the line in sixth with a time of 38:47.64 for Hopkins' final three points of the day.
Gettsyburg sits in second after Day 1 with 20.5 points followed by Dickinson in third with 18. Day 2 will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the conclusion of the heptathlon.
