AUSTIN, TX – Three Johns Hopkins student-athletes have earned a spot on the 2023-24 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Women's Academic All-America At-Large Team it was announced today.  Alexis Loder and Mikayla Schoff of the Blue Jay field hockey team both earned second team honors, while Diya Kulkarni, a member of the Johns Hopkins fencing team, was named to the third team.
 
The CSC Academic All-America Women's At-Large Team includes student-athletes who compete in beach volleyball, bowling, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, rifle, rowing, skiing and water polo. Nominees must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA and be a starter or significant reserve.
 
Loder and Schoff become the sixth and seventh members of the Blue Jay field hockey team to earn Academic All-America honors; this is the third consecutive year that the JHU field hockey team has produced two Academic All-Americans as six of the program's seven selections have come in the last three years.
 
Kulkarni joins Erin Chen '20 as the only Johns Hopkins women's fencers to earn Academic All-America honors; she was one of just three women's fencers in all divisions of the NCAA to be named to the Academic All-America Team this year.
 
Loder recently graduated from Johns Hopkins with a 3.94 cumulative grade point average and a degree in neuroscience.  A standout in goal for the Blue Jay field hockey team, she holds program records for career goals against average (0.64), wins (40) and games played (68) by a goalie; she also ranks third in JHU history in career shutouts (19) and ninth in career save percentage (.833).  Her career goals against average is tied for 13^th in NCAA Division III history and was third among active goalies in all divisions of the NCAA at the conclusion of the 2023 season.
 
Loder was a Second Team National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-American, a First Team NFHCA All-Region selection and a Second Team All-Centennial Conference honoree in 2023.
 
Schoff graduated in May with degrees in environmental science and public health and carried a 3.97 cumulative grade point average.  A two-time NFHCA All-Region and two-time All-Centennial Conference honoree, Schoff was also named to the 2023 NFHCA Senior Team.
 
Schoff punched up six goals, including three game-winners, seven assists and two defensive saves as a senior in 2023.  She scored the game-winning goal in Johns Hopkins' NCAA Quarterfinal and NCAA Semifinal victories as she helped the Jays to their third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championship game.  In all, she played in 65 career games with 52 starts and totaled six goals and nine assists for 21 points.  She was named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad in each of her four years at Johns Hopkins and was an NFHCA Scholar of Distinction in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
 
Kulkarni graduated in May with a degree in public health and a 3.69 cumulative grade point average.  The recipient of a prestigious Fulbright Research Grant, she was the 2024 United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) Division III Co-Epee Athlete of the Year and was named a 2024 USFCA First Team All-American.
 
Kulkarni led the Blue Jay Epee squad with 65 wins as a senior (65-47) and finished her career with an individual record of 155-101.  She ranks seventh in Johns Hopkins history in career Epee victories and was also a two-time First Team Eastern Women's Fencing Conference (EWFC) selection.  Kulkarni finished as the runner-up at the EWFC Championships and the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional and she placed seventh at the NIWFA Championships as a senior.
