Marco Azar led the Blue Jays as he went a combined 4-1 in singles and doubles.
Azar went 2-1 in singles, with both wins coming on Saturday. He opened the weekend with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Ahun Vodela (CNU) and then beat Benedict Badza (Hampton) 6-1, 6-2. In doubles play, he paired with senior
Zahari Stoimenov for an 8-3 win over Rithik Manchala and Drew Campbell (UMW). Azar then partnered with freshman
Jack Wexler for an 8-6 win over Aryan Arora and Badza. On Sunday, he lost to Nesh Kumaresan (CNU) 6-2, 6-4 in singles.
Wexler also went 2-1 in singles and then went 1-2 in doubles. He opened singles play with an easy 6-1, 6-0 win over Aidan Meehan (UMW). He then topped Marko Stoilkovski (Hampton) 6-3, 6-3. In addition to his win with Azar, Wexler paired with junior
Joshua Kim in an 8-6 loss to Ryan Meyer and Keldibek Kozhoev (UMW). On Sunday, dropped a hard-fought three-set match Ryan Monroe (CNU) 6-0, 6-7 (5), 1-0 (3). He then partnered with Stoimenov in an 8-4 loss to Eddy Porsmyr Hansen and Ashton Legum (CNU). Stoimenov won his only singles match, beating Campbell 6-3, 6-1 on Saturday.
Hopkins returns to action in two weeks at the ITA Southeast Regional. The tournament is scheduled for September 27-29 at Mary Washington.
