Blue Jays Rally to Help Norris Tie Record With Win Over Coker
The Blue Jays found themselves down 14-7 after the first five bouts as Coker picked up three wins, including victories by pin and technical fall, to jump to the early advantage. Johns Hopkins responded by winning four of the final five to hand Norris the record-tying victory.
Â
Graduate student
Chris Roybal jump-started the Blue Jay rally with an 11-1 major decision at 165 to pull the Jays with 14-11, but a victory by decision for Coker's
Anderson Hall at 174 pushed the Cobras' lead to 17-11. From there, the Blue Jays reeled off three straight wins to seal the victory.
Â
Senior
Noah Graber scored an impressive 26-11 technical fall over
Cephus Deas at 184 to pull the Jays within 17-16. With the match tied 4-4 late in the first period, Graber scored a takedown to grab a 7-4 lead entering the second period, outscored Cephus 11-6 in the second to push his lead to 18-10 and then used a pair of third-period takedowns to roll up eight third-period points to secure the technical fall.
Â
After a
John Libby win by forfeit at 197 gave the Blue Jays a 22-17 lead, it was junior
Jacob Pomykata who clinched the victory with a dominant third period. Down 3-1 entering the final two minutes, Pomykata worked from the bottom and scored an escape, takedown and three nearfall points to go up 8-3 and tacked on a penalty point and a riding time point to win 10-3 and push Norris into a tie with Janquitto.

Nationally-Ranked Reinhardt Tops Blue Jays
The Eagles won the first four bouts to jump out to a 19-0 lead and fuel the 39-9 victory over the Blue Jays. Each of the four wins earned bonus points for Reinhardt, which picked up two majors to go along with a pin and a technical fall to grab the 19-point lead.
Sophomore
Freddy Pimental got the Blue Jays on the board with a big 10-9 come-from-behind win against
AuShaud Evans, who is currently ranked 15
th in the nation (NAIA). Down 6-1 at the end of the first period, Pimental had the deficit down to 8-4 entering the third period, then used a takedown with 66 seconds remaining to pull within 8-7. After cutting Evans loose 30 seconds later, he scored a takedown at the buzzer to grab the thrilling one-point victory.
Â
After the Eagles grabbed a win by technical fall at 165, Blue Jay freshman
Noah O'Connor made things interesting with a third-period pin at 174. Down 6-0 early in the second period, O'Connor drew within 6-4 entering the final period with a late second-period escape and takedown. Working from the top position in the third, he turned Anderson just over a minute into the period and stuck him at 6:15.
Â
The Eagles went on to close out the win with a pair of pins and a win by decision to account for the 39-9 final score.
Â
Notes of Interest
Pimental's win against Reinhardt was his team-leading 19
th of the season and the 39
