PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team went 0-3 on day one of the Philadelphia Invitational Friday night at Temple. The Blue Jays are now 12-5 on the season.
Hopkins opened the meet with a 17-10 loss to 15
th-ranked UC San Diego. The Tritons earned a tight 5-4 win in the Sabre and 6-3 wins in the Foil and Epee.
Alex Jeffords led the Blue Jay Sabre squad with two wins while
Alan Zheng did the same in the Foil.

Ethan Insler and
Matthew Dao won one bout each in the Epee.
JHU then lost a close 15-12 decision to North Carolina. Jeffords went 3-0 to lead the Sabre squad to a 6-3 win.
Neil Pandey also earned two wins for the Jays' Sabre team. Hopkins lost a tough 5-4 decision in the Foil, with Zheng and
Yi Peng Sha winning two bouts each. Gana and Dao each earned a win in a 7-2 loss for the Epee squad.
The Blue Jays closed out the night with a 19-8 loss to the fourth-ranked Princeton Tigers.
Alex Pan won two bouts in a 6-3 loss for the JHU Sabre team. Zheng won each of his three bouts but the Foil squad lost a close one, 5-4. Insler picked up a win for the Blue Jays, the 100
th of his career, as the Epee squad fell 8-1.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, January 18 with day two of the Philadelphia Invitational. The day begins at 8:30 am as JHU takes on sixth-ranked Ohio State at Penn.
