BALTIMORE, MD – Visiting Ursinus won the first four bouts to grab a 19-0 lead and the Bears went on to a 33-11 win over Johns Hopkins in Centennial Conference wrestling action in Goldfarb Gymnasium Friday evening. The win improves the Bears' record to 5-6 overall and 1-0 in the Centennial, while the Blue Jays slip to 2-9 overall and 0-1 in the Centennial.
Â
Where the Match Was Won
After taking a forfeit win at 125, the Bears got a first-period pin from
Michael Adams at 133, an
Andrew Schaen major decision at 141 and a
Max Parnis decision at 149 to grab the 19-point lead that the Blue Jays couldn't overcome.
Johns Hopkis was within 23-11 with three bouts to go, but the Bears sealed the victory with a major decision from Nils Updale and 184 and back-to-back decision at 197 and 285 to close out the 33-11 victory.

Blue Jay Winners
Johns Hopkins picked up two victories on the night, a technical fall by sophomore
Freddy Pimental at 157 and a third-period pin at 174 from junior
Connor Powell to account for its 11 points.
Â
Pimental jumped out to a 7-0 first-period lead on the strength of a takedown and a four-point nearfall and then added an escape and a takedown in both the second and third periods to lock up his fifth technical fall of the season.
Powell had erased an early 6-3 deficit with a second-period takedown that evened his match against
Anthony Cerulli entering the third period. There, he scored an early reversal and three-point nearfall to grab an 11-6 lead before Cerulli scored a reversal of his own to pull within 11-8 with a little more than a minute remaining. While still in a defensive position on the mat, Powell hunted for and found Cerulli's head and quickly put him on his back for a pin at the 6:06 mark. The pin is the 14
th of Powell's career.
Â
Notes of Interest
Pimental's technical fall was the 32
nd of the year for the Blue Jays – they are two away from the program single-season record of 34, which was set last year. Powell's pin was the team's 68
th of the year, which is three shy of the program single-season record 71 (2019-20). The two bonus-point wins on the night boost the team's total for the year to 130 (30 MD / 32 TF / 68 Pins), which breaks the program's previous single-season record of 128, which was also set last season.
