Johns Hopkins Places Six on USFCA All-Region Teams

BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team had six athletes named to the United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) All-Region Team it was announced. Alan Zheng and Matthew Dao led the way as the pair earned Second Team All-Mid-Atlantic/South honors. In addition, Spencer Grossman Smisek, Alex Pan, Neil Pandey and Leonid Kotov earned Division III honors.
 
Hopkins has now produced 28 all-region selections since the introduction of the USFCA All-Region teams in 2022. JHU has had at least six selections in each of the four seasons. Hopkins' six selections this year are the most of any Division III school.
 
Zheng earns All-Mid-Atlantic/South honors for the third time in his career after earning honorable mention honors the last two years. He also earned Division III honors as a freshman in 2022. Zheng is 69-29 on the season and earned a bid to the NCAA Championships. He won the MACFA Foil Championship and finished seventh at the NCAA Regional earlier this month.
 
Dao is named second team all-region in the Epee after grabbing Division III accolades in each of the last two seasons. He went 60-56 on the season and placed 10th at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional.
 
Grossman Smisek was named to the Division III all-region team for the second straight year. He went 59-55 in the Foil this season and finished in a tie for 23rd at the NCAA regional.
 
Pan, Pandey and Kotov were named to the Division III all-region team in the Sabre. Pan went 39-22 in his first season with the Blue Jays and ended the year with a 17th-place finish at the regional. Pandey led the Sabre squad with 79 wins, going 79-30 and taking 18th place at the regional. Kotov earns all-region honors for the first time in his career, finishing the season with a 48-37 record. He also placed 20th at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional.
