Meert Awarded Elite 90 Honor at NCAA Division III Baseball Championship

EASTLAKE, OH – Johns Hopkins sophomore Grant Meert has been named the recipient of the NCAA Elite 90 Award for the 2025 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship, recognizing his outstanding academic achievements, the NCAA announced Thursday.

A Molecular & Cellular Biology major, Meert boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA. Hailing from Ballwin, MO, he received the award during the championship's opening ceremony Thursday evening in Eastlake.

Meert becomes just the fifth student-athlete – and first baseball player – in Johns Hopkins history to earn this distinguished honor, joining the ranks of Mikayla Bisignani (2018-19 | Women's Swimming & Diving), Alex Ladd (2012-13 | Women's Swimming & Diving), Nandita Krishnan (2011-12 | Women's Tennis) and Carolyn Warren (2010-11 | Women's Tennis).

"That's pretty awesome," said Meert. "The school, the caliber that we come from. I know it's tough to succeed in baseball and in the classroom, so it's kind of cool for me to receive that honor and join those on that prestigious list."

The Elite 90 Award recognizes student-athletes who achieve excellence both in championship competition and in the classroom. It is presented to the individual with the highest cumulative GPA at the final site for each of the NCAA's 90 championships.

To be eligible, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and have participated in their sport for a minimum of two years at their institution. In the event of a tie, all ties are resolved based on total credits earned.
