BALTIMORE, MD –
Reece DiCicco, a rising sophomore, and
Parker Sorenson, an incoming freshman on the Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse team, were two of 23 players recently named to the Canadian team that will compete at 2025 Under-20 Men's Lacrosse World Championships. The 20-team championship event will take place from August 15-24 on Jeju Island, Korea.
Â
Along with rising junior
Quintan Kilrain, who was recently named to the United States team, Johns Hopkins will have three active Blue Jays competing at the championships. Since the event debuted in 1988, this will mark the seventh time that Johns Hopkins has had two or more participants and the fourth time at least three Blue Jays will compete in the event.
Â
DiCicco and Sorenson are also the fourth and fifth Blue Jays to represent Team Canada at the championships. They join
Kevin Huntley (2004),
Zach Palmer (2008) and
Joel Tinney (2012) on this distinguished list.Â
Haswell Franklin, who played at Johns Hopkins from 1980-83, served as an assistant coach with the Canadian team in 1992, 1996 and 2003.
Â
DiCicco earned a spot on the Big Ten All-Freshman Team in 2025 as he was a standout member of the Blue Jays' short stick defensive midfield. The only freshman on the team to play in all 14 games, he collected 14 ground balls and added 10 caused turnovers; he finished third on the team in caused turnovers and seventh in ground balls and his 10 CTs are a Johns Hopkins freshman record for a non-long stick player.
Â
A defenseman and four-start recruit who played at Culver Military Academy, Sorenson will become the first in-coming Blue Jay to compete at the U20 Championships prior to arriving at Johns Hopkins since Tinney represented Team Canada in 2012. Sorenson was a three-year member of Culver's Prep team (the top team at CMA) and helped guide the Eagles to a 46-8 record, three MSLA titles and the 2025 National Prep Championship. In the National Prep title game, a 24-11 win over the Hill Academy, Sorenson rang up two assists, three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Â
DiCicco, Sorenson and their teammates will open their schedule on August 16 with a pool play game against Kilrain and the United States and will also have pool play games against Australia and the Haudenosaunee. All four participants from Pool A will automatically advance to the quarterfinal round of the playoffs, which begin on August 21. The gold medal game is scheduled for August 24.
Team Canada has grabbed seven silver medals and two bronze in the nine previous World Lacrosse men's junior field championships. This is the first time this event has been held in Asia since 1996 when the U.S. U19 team defeated Australia 13-8 in the championship game in Tokyo.
