LANCASTER, PA – Johns Hopkins claimed three Centennial Conference titles and broke a pair of conference records on day two of the championships Friday. The Blue Jays remain in first place with 343.5 points through six events.
Josiah March led a quintet of Blue Jays in the Championship final of the 500 Free. He beat the field with a conference record swim of 4:28.33. His time is also an NCAA B time, and he is the first Blue Jay to win a conference title in the 500 Free since 2001.
Alessandro Pereira clocked in at 4:32.86 for silver, followed by
Ken Ning with bronze in 4:33.67.
Larkin Helman finished in fifth place with a swim of 4:37.02 and
Jack Cornish took seventh in 4:41.39.
Larry Yu then led the field with a swim of 1:49.30 to win the 200 IM. It is the Blue Jays' first conference title in the event since 1997. His time is also an NCAA B time.
Bryce Lloyd took the bronze with a time of 1:50.21, with
Matthew Hartshorn taking fourth in 1:50.75.
Julian Maycock finished in seventh (1:53.02) and
Willi Dunlap won the B Final in 1:52.89.
Michael Ivanov then tied for the bronze and broke the program's freshman record in the 50 Free. He touched the wall in 20.44.
Christian Mayr took fifth in the B Final with a swim of 21.12.
Dylan Jewett placed seventh (21.37) and
Justin Ely placed eighth (21.39).
Hopkins ended the night with a third conference relay title.
Aden Li, Yu,
Avery Clapp and Ivanov finished in 3:14.80 to earn gold in the 400 Medley Relay. Their time is a conference record and the fifth fastest time in program history, as well as an NCAA B time. It is JHU's first conference title in the 400 Medley Relay since 2010. Li's leadoff leg of 47.92 the 100 Back is the fourth fastest time in program history.
In the B Final of the 400 Medley Relay,
Kai Henrikson-Brandt, Ely,
Rad Couture and Mayr finished in second place with a time of 3:18.46. Henrikson-Brandt led off the relay with a conference and JHU freshman record swim of 47.87. His time is also the third fastest in school history.
The Centennial Championships continue Saturday, February 21 with the prelims of the 200 Back at 10:00 am. The finals are scheduled for a 6:00 pm start.
