LEXINGTON, VA – Johns Hopkins jumped out to a 4-0 lead en route to a 5-2 win over host and 33
rd-ranked Washington & Lee Friday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 3-1 on the season while the Generals fall to 3-4.
Hopkins swept the doubles' matches to take the point heading into singles and then grabbed wins at two, three and four to secure the win.
Dylan Blenkiron and
Mukundh Boopathi took the first win of the match when they beat Ryan Good and Sanjeev Rao, 6-3, at two doubles.
Allen Gong and
Chakor Rajendra then clinched the doubles' point with a 6-4 win over Justin Ilie and Heys Parker at one. With the win, Gong became the 19
th player in program history with 100 combined wins.
Pranav Gadiraju and
Brian Yi completed the sweep with a 7-5 win at three versus Todd Cannaliato and Pearce Lane.
Blenkiron gave Hopkins a 2-0 lead when he won 6-2, 6-4 over Cannaliato at three singles. Boopathi followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win at four against Lane. Gong clinched the win when he beat Ilie 6-2, 6-2 at two singles to put JHU up 4-0. Sahil Arora then got the Generals on the board with a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (5) win over Yi at five. Parker made it 4-2 when he won 2-6, 7-6 (1), 1-0 (11) over Rajendra at one.
Jason Li wrapped up the win with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Rao at six singles.
Hopkins returns to the court on Saturday, February 28 against second-ranked Chicago in Lexington.
