WESTMINSTER, MD – Host McDaniel jumped out to a 23-0 lead and then held off a furious rally by visiting Johns Hopkins as the Green Terror topped the Blue Jays, 29-17, in Centennial Conference wrestling action at the Gill Center Friday night. With the win, McDaniel maintains possession of the Crab Cup, which is presented annually to the winner of the regular-season dual meet between the two teams.

Where The Match Was Won
In a match it won by 12, the deciding points for the Terror came at 125 and 141, where they picked up a win by forfeit and a win by injury default, respectively, to fuel the early 23-point run.

McDaniel added a wins by decision at 133 and 157 and second-ranked
Thomas Monn added a 20-2 technical fall win over
Joey Saito at at 149 to account for the three other wins in the early run.

After the Blue Jays trimmed the deficit to 23-11 with two bouts to go, McDaniel got the match-clinching points at 197 as
Zeke Gayle scored a first-period pin of
Chuck Dunn to push the Terror lead to 29-11 with one bout to go.

Johns Hopkins Rallies
Senior
Connor Powell got the Blue Jay rally started at 165 as he topped
LaDaynean Simpson, 8-4. Down 3-1 as the second-period clock ticked under 30 seconds, Powell came out on top of a scramble on the mat and sent Simpson to his back to grab a takedown and four nearfall points to fuel his win.

AJ Gordon followed with an 11-10 win over
Alex Taylor at 174 as he used a first-period takedown and four nearfall points to grab a 7-1 lead and then held off a Taylor rally to grab the one-point victory.

Senior
Kadin Khalloufi made it three straight wins for the Blue Jays as he scored an 11-1 technical fall of Cummings in just over four minutes. Khalloufi used a seven-point move in the first period to grab the lead and later worked Cummings to his back three more times to secure the win and pull the Blue Jays within 23-11

After McDaniel clinched the match at 197, Johns Hopkins closed the match with a third-period
Jacob Pomykata pin at the 6:31 mark to account for the final score. Tied at 1-1 as the clock dripped under 40 seconds, Pomykata caught McDaniel's Kaden Bryan as he attempted a duck under and needed less than 10 seconds from there to secure the pin.

• Powell's win was the 75
th of his career.
• Pomykata's pin was his 12
th of the season, which breaks the program single-season record for pins by a heavyweight.

Johns Hopkins will return to action on Saturday (February 7) as the Blue Jays welcome the Merchant Marine Academy and Muhlenberg to Goldfarb Gym.
