BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins wrestling team closed the regular season portion of its 2025-26 schedule on Saturday in Goldfarb Gym. Wrestling short-handed and forced to forfeit the bouts at 125 and 141 in both matches, the Blue Jays fells to the Merchant Marine Academy, 29-12, and Muhlenberg, 28-26.Â

Hopkins-USMMA … Where The Match Was Won
After a double forfeit at 125, the Mariners won the first four contested bouts to grab a 20-0 lead after the match at 157. A
Wesley Wydick technical fall at 133 got the run started for Merchant Marine, which also grabbed the forfeit at 141 and a first-period pin at 149 to build the early 20-point lead.
Â
Johns Hopkins was within 23-8 after grabbing wins by major decision at 165 and 184, but another first-period pin at 197, this one from
Grant Mathias, accounted for the Mariners' final win before the Blue Jays grabbed another major at 285.
Â
Johns Hopkins Winners vs. USMMA
The Blue Jays grabbed three wins – all by major decision – in the match against the Mariners and all three came courtesy of the seniors who were honored before the match as part of senior day.
Â
Connor Powell got the Blue Jays on the board as he topped
Jacob Wilson, 11-1. Powell used three takedowns – one in each period – to fuel his victory.Â
Kadin Khalloufi added the second major of the match for the Blue Jays at 184 as he broke a 3-3 tie entering the final period with an escape and then added a takedown and four nearfall points to top
Adian Dugan, 12-3.Â
Â
Classmate
Jacob Pomykata made it three wins for the Blue Jay seniors as he closed the match with a 10-2 victory over
Jonathan Harms. Pomykata was up just 3-2 entering the final period, but he tacked on two takedowns and a riding time point to grab the major decision victory.
Â
Hopkins-Muhlenberg … Where The Match Was Won
Down 23-18 after Johns Hopkins used three straight pins to turn an early 18-5 deficit into a five-point lead, the Mules got a first-period pin from
Nicholas Stump at 184 and followed that with a 13-2
Ryan Fairchild major decision at 197 to grab a 28-23 lead entering the match at 285.
Â
All Muhlenberg senior
Hayk Grigorian had to do was avoid getting pinned and he did just that, fighting off Pomykata at every turn before falling 8-2 to account for the 28-26 final score.
Â
The Mules had used the wins by forfeit and a pin at 149 to grab the early 18-5 lead and then the late rally sealed the victory.
Â
Johns Hopkins Winners vs. Muhlenberg
The Blue Jays won five of the eight contested bouts in the match against the Mules with three pins a technical fall and Pomykata's decision at 285.
Â
Sophomore
Duncan Stadler got the Jays rolling with a 21-5 technical fall of
Max Rotter at 133 and then three straight pins at 157, 165 and 174 quickly turned the 13-point deficit into the five-point lead.
Â
Eric Gendlin started the run for the Blue Jays as he decked
Charles Levine in 4:32 at 157 before Powell followed with a second-period pin of his own, this one in 4:36 against
Tyson Derenberger, to trim the deficit to 18-17. It then took freshman
AJ Gordon just 98 seconds to send
Noah Schlofer to his back and give Hopkins the short-lived lead.
Â
Notes
• Powell's major decision and pin pushed him past 50 career bonus-point wins as he now has 13 major decisions, 12 technical falls and 26 pins for 51 career bonus point victories among his 77 career wins. He ranks third in school history I career bonus point wins.
Â
Johns Hopkins will return to action on February 14 when the Blue Jays travel to the Merchant Marine Academy for the 2026 Centennial Conference Championships.
