BALTIMORE, MD – For the second day in a row, the Johns Hopkins baseball team spotted visiting Hamilton an early lead.
For the second day in a row, it didn't matter.
Â
After the Continentals grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a
Taylor Kaufman run-scoring single, the Blue Jays answered with two in the second and one in the third to grab a 3-1 lead.Â
Logan Scully's two-run home run plated the two Blue Jay runs in the second and an
Alex Shane sacrifice fly chased home
Jacob Harris an inning later.
Â
Hamilton (0-2) trimmed the deficit to 3-2 on an
Alfonso Rada run-scoring double in the third, but the Blue Jays scored 14 of the game's final 15 runs to move their record to 6-1 on the year.
Â
The 3-2 lead was 7-2 just a half-inning after Rada's RBI-double as the Blue Jays loaded the bases with two outs and Harris then took
Ethan Righter's first pitch deep to left center for his second grand slam in as many days.
Â
After three scoreless innings for both teams, the Continentals got one back in the top of the eighth as Rada singled-home
Michael Tallarida with bases loaded and just one out, but
Nicolas Jos struck out
Satish Raichur and
Daniel Sullivan to kill the threat and maintain a four-run Blue Jay lead.
Â
Any hopes for a Hamilton comeback were dashed in the bottom of the eighth as the Blue Jays sent 14 batters to the plate and scored 10 runs on five hits to quickly turn the 7-3 lead into a 17-3 advantage. A two-run
Damian Brown single and a three-run
Nathan Lewis home run highlighted the inning for the Blue Jays.
Â
Thomas Cancian went 5.2 innings and allowed two runs and two hits while striking out five against two walks and picked up the win for the Blue Jays.Â
Michael Yousef, Joe and
William Boneno combined to allow four hits and just one run while striking out six in relief.
Â
Harris led the way offensively for the Blue Jays as he was 3-for-5 with four RBIs and three runs scored, while
Clay Hartje, William Juan and Scully all collected two hits to help power a 12-hit attack.
Â
Rada and Kaufman both picked up a pair of hits to account for four of the six hits the Continentals managed against the four Blue Jay pitchers. Mark Kovach got the start on the mound for Hamilton and took the loss as he allowed three runs and four hits in three innings of work.
