Clark Earns All-America Honors at NCAA Indoor Track Championships

Freshman Places Fourth in the 5000 on Day One

BIRGMINGHAM, AL – The Johns Hopkins men's track team picked up five points on the first day of the 2026 NCAA Division III Indoor Track Championships at the Birmingham Crossplex on Friday.  With their five points, the Blue Jays are tied for 14th-place in the team standings entering Saturday's second day of competition.

Freshman Anthony Clark earned the first All-America finish of his track career at Johns Hopkins as he clocked in a 14:10.23 to place fourth in the 5000.  Clark hovered between fifth and sixth place through the first 3400, then jumped to as high as second before settling into fourth over the final 400.

Seniors Emmanuel Leblond (12th / 14:25.14) and Matt Kelly (17th / 14:49.74) joined Clark in the 5000, but did not place among the eight scoring runners in the event.

Junior Sebastian Tangelson will enter the final day of the Heptathlon in 16th-place as he totaled 2,643 points through four events on Friday.

Tangleson's best event on day one was the Shot Put, which he tossed 12.65-meters to place fifth among the 20 entries.  He will compete in the 60-meter hurdles, the Pole Vault and the 1000-meter run on Saturday.  He is currently 201 points from a top-eight finish, which would earn him First Team All-America honors and grab a point in the team standings for the Blue Jays.

Junior Alex Colletti narrowly missed moving on to Saturday's final in the 200-meter dash as he clocked in at 21.45 to place 10th in the preliminaries.  The top eight in the prelims advance to the finals and Colletti missed by just one-tenth of a second.

In addition to Tangleson continuing on in the Pentathlon, the Blue Jays will have two entries – Leblond and freshman Caleb Tenney – in the 3000 on Saturday.
