NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Johns Hopkins eased past 16
th-ranked Kenyon, 6-1, at the Natalie Pitts Memorial Invitational Saturday at Christopher Newport. The Blue Jays win their fourth straight to improve to 5-3 while the Owls see their five-match win streak snapped as they fall to 9-3.
Hopkins grabbed wins at two and three doubles to secure the doubles' point, losing just two games in the process.
Ava Li and
Kamila Wong won 6-1 over Shadia Amado Aguad and Kiara Komlodi at two.
Claire Loftus and
Sahana Madala won by the same score versus Clare Hudson and Bridgette Kelly at three. The Owls grabbed a win at one when Eleni Lazaridou and Hana Nouaime beat
Sydney Langer and
Lia Melvin, 6-4.
The Blue Jays then won five of the six singles matches, including four in straight sets, to earn the 6-1 win. Wong beat Komlodi 6-1, 6-4 at two singles and Loftus won 6-2, 6-2 over Nouaime at three. Madala grabbed a 6-2, 6-4 win versus Amado Aguad at four and
Karah Li beat Kelly 6-1, 6-2 at six.
Isabel He rallied to win 6-7 (5), 6-1, 1-0 (7) at five over Hudson. Lazaridou picked up the lone Owls' point with a 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (9) win over Melvin at one.
Hopkins returns to action on Sunday, March 22 versus 18
th-ranked Case Western Reserve. The match is scheduled for a 9:00 am start.
