ATLANTA, GA – Johns Hopkins split its matches Saturday as JHU beat 38
th-ranked Christopher Newport before falling at 11
th-ranked Emory. The Blue Jays slip to 9-6 on the season.
In the morning, Hopkins jumped out to a 1-0 lead over Christopher Newport with a doubles' sweep, all by a 6-2 score.
Ava Li and
Kamila Wong beat Kendal Chang and Kylie Schaefer at one, while
Claire Loftus and
Sahana Madala defeated Lindsey B
ergelin and Samantha Robertson at two. And at three,
Isabel He and
Sydney Langer won over Emma Carver and Eva Taylor.
The Blue Jays then won four of the six singles matches to grab a 5-2 win over the Captains.
Lia Melvin rallied for a three-set win over Schaefer at one singles. He won 6-4, 6-1 over Robertson and four and
Karah Li won 7-5, 6-3 at five versus Carver.
Aubrey Zhou won 6-0, 6-3 over Bergelin at six. CNU earned its wins at two and three singles. Chang won 6-3, 6-2 versus
Sahana Sanjeev at two and Taylor came-from-behind to win in three over Langer.
Hopkins took an early 1-0 lead on Emory with wins at one and three doubles. Wong and
Ava Li won 6-3 at one over Emily Kantrovitz and Iris Berman. Izzy Antanavicius and Yanire Marte took a 6-1 win over Loftus and Madala at two, turning all eyes to court three for the doubles' point. Langer and Melvin took the win and the point when they beat Daniela Livson and Rachel Hernandez 7-6 (3).
The Eagles turned the tables on the Blue Jays, winning four of six singles matches to grab a 4-3 win. Wong won a close 7-5, 7-5 decision over Berman at two singles. Madala won 6-1, 6-4 at five versus Hernandez. Kantrovitz won in three sets over Melvin at one. Marte and Holyn Karp won in straight sets at four and six respectively for the Eagles. The match came down to court three, where Antanavicius prevailed in three sets 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 over
Ava Li for EU.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, April 18 versus Howard. The match is scheduled for a 4:00 pm start at the JHU Tennis Courts.
