STEVENSON, MD – Johns Hopkins picked up a pair of wins on Saturday, beating Stevenson and Haverford. The seventh-ranked Blue Jays improve to 14-5 on the season.
Hopkins opened the day with a 7-0 win over host Stevenson.
Gabe Xu and
Andy Zhu earned the first win without dropping a game at two doubles.
Owen Akers and
Daniel Greene then clinched the doubles' point, in a shutout win at three.
Pranav Gadiraju and
Brian Yi completed the doubles' sweep with a 6-4 win over Luke Appleman and Brandon Nguyen at one.
The Blue Jays then swept singles, dropping just five total games in the six matches. Xu won 6-1, 6-0 over Christian Coulson at four. Zhu and Akers followed with shutouts at five and six respectively, to secure the win. Gadiraju then beat King Nacua 6-1, 6-0 at two. Greene won in a shutout at three and Yi closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Appleman at one.
Hopkins then beat 43
rd-ranked Haverford, 6-1.
Dylan Blenkiron and
Brian Yi took the first win of the match when they won 6-2 over Caden Hsia and Stefan Johnson at three doubles. Teo Bortan and Niki Lavu answered with a 6-2 win versus
Mukundh Boopathi and
Pranav Gadiraju at two. Marko Arboleda and Robbie Vazquez took the doubles point for the Fords with a 6-4 win at one versus
Allen Gong and
Chakor Rajendra.
JHU responded by sweeping singles to take the match 6-1. Five of the six matches were decided in straight sets. Rajendra evented the match when he beat Bortan 6-0, 6-2 at three. Blenkiron then put the Bue Jays on top with a 6-2, 6-q win over Arboleda at two. Gong followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Lavu at one. Kim clinched the win when he beat Hsia 7-6 (4), 6-1 at six. Boopathi then earned a hard-fought 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win at five.
Jason Li closed out the match with a tight 7-5, 7-5 win over Johnson at four.
Hopkins returns to action on Sunday, April 26 against eighth-ranked Swarthmore. The match is scheduled for a 1:00 pm start.
