Johns Hopkins to Play at Cornell in First Round of NCAA Tournament

Blue Jays to Make Record 50th Appearance in the NCAA Tournament

BALTIMORE, MD –- The Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse team (9-5) earned an at-large bid and will travel to seventh-seeded Cornell (11-4) in the first round of the 2026 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Tournament it was announced Sunday evening.  The game is scheduled for Saturday, May 9 at Schoellkopf Field.  Faceoff is set for 5 pm and the game will air live on ESPNU.
 
The winner of the Johns Hopkins-Cornell game will take on the winner of the game between second-seeded Notre Dame and the winner of the preliminary round game between Jacksonville and Robert Morris in the NCAA Quarterfinals.  That quarterfinal game will be played on Saturday, May 16 at Hofstra University.
 
How They Got Here
Johns Hopkins and Cornell both earned one of the eight at-large bids to the tournament.  Johns Hopkins advanced to the Big Ten title game before falling to Penn State, while the Big Red lost to Princeton in the Ivy League title game.
 
Series History
The meeting in the first round of the NCAA Tournament between the Blue Jays and Cornell will be the 24th meeting between the two programs.  Johns Hopkins leads the all-time series 16-6-1 with the last meeting between the two teams taking place in the 1987 NCAA Championship Game (an 11-10 Johns Hopkins victory).  The teams met five times in the NCAA Tournament between 1976 and 1987 with the Blue Jays grabbing wins in the 1978 and 1987 national championship games and the 1983 quarterfinals.  Cornell picked up wins in the 1976 semifinals and 1977 championship game.

Playoff History
Johns Hopkins is making its record 50th appearance in the tournament.  The Blue Jays are 73-40 all-time in the NCAA Tournament with nine championships, 18 appearances in the national championship game and 29 trips to the semifinals.

Cornell, the defending national champion, is making its 32nd appearance in the tournament and counts four NCAA titles to its credit.
