NEWARK, DE – The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team opened its fall schedule on Friday at the Villanova/Delaware Invitational. The Blue Jays competed in singles and doubles against Delaware and VCU.
Hopkins went 2-1 in its doubles' matches and 5-5 in singles.
Isabel He and
Sydney Langer won their match over VCU's Viktoria Lackova and Sofia Jane Thorne, 6-3.
Claire Loftus and
Jasmine Nguyen grabbed a 6-1 win over Delaware's Aimee Knowles and Kinga Wahl-Maniecka. UD's Isabella Kellenberger and Jenny Marsh won a tight 7-6 (5) match over
Sahana Madala and
Isabelle Emmanuel.
In the singles matches versus the Blue Hens, Nguyen won 6-3, 6-4 over Lara Russiniello and
Sophia Kim lost just two games in her win over Emma Akselrod. Madala took a 6-4 victory over Marsh and
Lia Melvin beat Akselrod, 6-1. Emmanuel came from behind to beat Wahl-Maniecka 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (3). Tomicke won 6-3, 6-2 over He and Knowles topped
Ruth Sun 6-0, 6-0.
Against the Rams Langer fell 6-1, 6-2 to Tania Isabel Andrade and Andrea Magalllenes won 6-1, 6-3 over
Sahana Sanjeev. In addition, Anjali Junarto won 6-1, 6-1 over Loftus.
The Villanova/Delaware Invitational continues on Saturday.
