Baltimore, MD - Sophomore midfielder Heidi Pearce (Chestertown, MD/St. Andrew's) set a school Division I record by scoring eight goals to lead the No. 18 Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team to an easy 23-11 victory over Ohio University Sunday afternoon at Homewood Field.

Pearce also dished out two assists for 10 points, tying JHU's Division I record for points in a game. Danielle Maschuci also scored 10 points in Hopkins' 16-7 win over St. Joseph's on April 28, 1999. The Blue Jays also set team Division I records Sunday by scoring 23 goals and taking 56 shots.

Seniors Jamie Larrimore (Chesterown, MD/Kent County) and Erin Wellner (East Williston, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) each recorded six points, while junior Meghan Burnett (Auburn, NY/Auburn) added four points in the victory.

The Blue Jays jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first nine minutes of the game, as Wellner scored an unassisted goal just 26 seconds into the contest and Pearce followed with three straight goals. However, after a goal by Larrimore, the Bobcats scored the next four goals, as Kristen Gombeski scored twice and Lindsey Hart assisted on two others.

With the Hopkins lead cut to 5-4, five different Blue Jays scored the next five goals as JHU took a 10-4 advantage at the 9:08 mark of the half. After two Ohio goals Larrimore scored back-to-back markers, but Lynz Keys scored with one second remaining in the half to cut the JHU lead to 12-7.

The Bobcats kept the game close in the second half, and Ohio was within striking distance after a goal by Gombeski cut the Blue Jays' lead to 16-11 with 12:53 left. However, Wellner scored off a Pearce assist just 44 seconds later to trigger a 7-0 Hopkins run to end the game.

Junior attacker Liz Holland (Catonsville, MD/Mt. De Sales) scored two goals and assisted on another for Hopkins, while sophomore midfielder Kate Barcomb (Middlebury, VT/Middlebury) added two goals as Hopkins won its fourth straight. Goalkeeper Jen McDonald (Garden City, NY/Garden City) made six saves for the Blue Jays, and Ohio goalkeeper Jennifer Cassidy made 15 saves for the Bobcats, who fell to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

Hopkins will look to extend its winning streak when the Blue Jays travel to State College, PA, to battle American Lacrosse Conference opponent Penn State Wednesday at 5 p.m.
