Larrimore, Pearce Lead Hopkins Past Richmond, 14-8

March 30, 2002

Senior attacker Jamie Larrimore (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) scored five goals and added an assist and sophomore midfielder Heidi Pearce (Chestertown, MD/St. Andrew's) added five goals to lead the No. 16 Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team to a 14-8 victory over Richmond Saturday afternoon at President's Field.

The Blue Jays, who have won two straight and six of seven to improve to 6-4 this season, scored the first four goals of the second half after the teams battled to a 4-4 halftime tie. Senior attacker Erin Wellner (East Williston, NY/Sacred Heart Academy), junior attacker Meghan Burnett (Auburn, NY/Auburn), Larrimore, and Pearce all scored during the run, which ended with the first of Pearce's four second-half goals.

Carrie Aitken scored a free position goal at the 12:36 mark to cut the lead to 8-5, but Pearce answered just 52 seconds later with a goal off an assist from Wellner to put Hopkins back up four. The Spiders cut the lead to one with goals by Alexis Brandolini, Mandy Bourquin, and Aitken in a 1:45 span, but Larrimore and Pearce would combine to score the last five goals of the game. Larrimore scored two straight unassisted goals to make it a three-goal game with 2:50 left, Pearce added two unassisted goals at the 1:33 and 41 second marks, and Larrimore scored with one second left to conclude the scoring.

The Spiders took an early 2-0 lead with 26:09 left in the first half on goals by Polly Purcell and Katie Dolan, but Hopkins responded with three straight goals to take its first lead of the day. Larrimore scored her first goal on a free position shot at the 21:55 mark, and less than three minutes later senior midfielder Christy Peterson (Fallston, MD/Fallston) scored off an assist from sophomore midfielder Kate Barcomb (Middlebury, VT/Middlebury) to tie the game. At the 15:45 mark freshman midfielder Anne Crisafulli (Garden City, NY/Garden City) put Hopkins ahead with a free position goal, the first goal of her career, forcing a Richmond timeout.

Dolan scored a free position goal with 14:12 left to tie the game at three, and goals by Pearce and Brandolini in the last two minutes of the half made it a 4-4 game at the break.

Junior goalkeeper Jen McDonald (Garden City, NY/Garden City) made eight saves in goal for the Blue Jays, while Richmond goalkeeper Kelly Johnson stopped 10 shots.

The Blue Jays face a crucial American Lacrosse Conference test Saturday when Hopkins hosts Ohio State at Homewood Field at 11 a.m. The Buckeyes, ranked No. 19 in the Brine/IWLCA poll, are 7-1 this season after a 12-11 upset of Maryland Sunday in College Park.
