Box Score

BALTIMORE, MD - Four pitchers combined for a one-hitter and the offense scored double-digit runs for the 14th time this season as the Johns Hopkins baseball team won easily against Gettysburg, 17-0, this afternoon in Centennial Conference action. The Blue Jays won their fourth straight game and 14th in their last 15 to improve to 26-5 overall and 12-1 in the conference. Gettysburg fell to 9-16-1 overall and 4-9 in CC action with the loss.

The Blue Jays jumped out in front with two runs in the bottom of the first and continued the onslaught throughout the game. After three innings, JHU held a 10-0 lead and senior Karl Sineath (West Chester, PA/West Chester Henderson) was already 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs. Hopkins added two runs in the fifth and sixth innings before freshman Dave Montegari (West Hempstead, NY/Chaminade) capped the scoring with a three-run blast in the bottom of the eighth inning, his second homer of the year.

With his three runs and three hits on the day, Sineath moved into second place at Hopkins with 161 career runs and into seventh place with 170 career hits. He needs just three more runs to become JHU's all-time leader, and 10 hits to become the fourth player in school history with 180 career hits. Sineath also needs just two stolen bases to become the all-time leader at Hopkins with 96.

In addition to Sineath and Montegari, several other Blue Jays contributed at the plate. Sophomore Craig Cetta (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, while senior Ben Taylor (Pawling, NY/Trinity-Pawling) was 1-for-2 and scored three runs. Junior Joe Urban (Nanticoke, PA/Bishop Hoban) was 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI, while junior Jay Cieri (Pine Brooke, NJ/Montville) went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Blue Jay batters drew nine walks and were hit by three pitches on the day.

Senior Yani Rosenberg (Baltimore, MD/Gilman) improved to 6-0 on the season as he combined with seniors Neal Lynch (Pennington, NJ/Notre Dame) and Mike Overstreet (Mt. Airy, MD/Linganore) and sophomore Sven Stafford (Evanston, IL/Evanston) to limit the Bullets to one hit and two walks. Rosenberg, who has won his last 14 decisions and is 25-3 for his career, allowed one hit and two walks while striking out four in five innings of work.

His 14-game winning streak is the second longest in school history behind Scott Orlovsky, who won 19 straight games during the 1997 and 1998 seasons. Rosenberg also needs just eight strikeouts to become JHU's all-time leader with 242.

Lynch threw two hitless innings and struck out two batters, while Overstreet and Stafford each pitched a scoreless frame. Joe Gossweiler took the loss for the Bullets as he allowed eight runs on eight hits in 2.1 innings. Daniel Fuchs picked up the lone hit for Gettysburg.

The Blue Jays and Bullets meet again on Friday at 3:30 p.m. in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
