Hopkins Game Versus Dickinson Ruled Official by Centennial

CARLISLE, PA - The Johns Hopkins baseball game against Dickinson College on April 4, which was suspended after seven inning due to rain and darkness with the Blue Jays leading 11-4, was ruled official by the Centennial Conference on Monday.

The Blue Jays are now 17-2 overall and 5-0 in the Centennial Conference. JHU, which has won eight straight games, is scheduled to host Washington College on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

Hopkins took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second as senior Joe Urban (Nanticoke, PA/Bishop Hoban) hit a solo home run, his second of the year. Sophomore Mike Durgala (Annandale, VA/Thomas Jefferson) added a solo shot, his sixth of the season, in the top of the fourth to give the Blue Jays a 2-0 advantage.

JHU then scored three runs with two outs in the fifth to increase the margin to 5-0. Sophomore Mike Spiciarich (Syosset, NY/Chaminade) started the rally with a single, he then stole second and scored on a double by sophomore Paul Winterling (Glenelg, MD/McDonogh School). Following a single and a stolen base by Durgala, junior Craig Cetta (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) drove in both runners with a single.

Both teams scored two runs in the sixth inning, but the Blue Jays took a commanding 11-2 lead with four runs in the top of the seventh. Dickinson scored twice in the bottom of the inning, but play was suspended before the eighth inning could start.

Junior Russ Berger (Owings Mills, MD/Owings Mills) improved to 3-0 on the year as he pitched 5.1 innings and allowed two runs on five hits while striking out four. Miles Hunt took the loss for the Red Devils as he gave up 11 runs, six earned, on 11 hits in seven innings.

Durgala finished the game 3-for-5 with three runs, while Spiciarich added three hits in four at-bats and senior Jay Cieri (Pine Brook, NJ/Montville) added two runs batted in. Geoff Neese and Brian MacPhail both drove in two runs for Dickinson.
