Final Stats

BALTIMORE - After being held to just three runs against Dickinson on Tuesday, Johns Hopkins bombed five home runs in the series finale, rolling to a 19-4 win over the Red Devils at JHU Baseball Field on Friday afternoon.

In an eight-run second inning outburst, sophomore designated hitter Rob Pietroforte delivered four of those runs with a two-out grand slam to left field, giving the 16th-ranked (ABCA/Collegiate Baseball Newspaper) Blue Jays a 6-0 lead. Senior second baseman Corey Gleason capped off the inning with two more, sending another shot over the left field wall to make it an 8-0 game.

Sophomore shortstop Jonas Fester lined a two-run homer to left field in the third inning to extend the lead to 10-0. Two Blue Jays launched their first career home runs to close out the game, as sophomore pinch-hitter Jon Solomon parked a pitch onto University Parkway in the seventh and senior pinch hitter Tim Sliker delivered a two-run shot to left in the eighth.

Pietroforte and Fester finished the day with four runs driven in a piece to lead all hitters. In the series, Pietroforte had a team-high six RBI.

Senior southpaw Jim Flannery (2-1) made the lead stand by striking out seven Red Devil hitters through six innings. He allowed two earned runs on five hits for the afternoon. The win was Flannery's second in a row.

Dickinson managed six hits for the day and junior right fielder Ryan Stearrett had two of them, finishing 2-for-3. Sophomore center fielder Chris McInerney had a pair of RBI for the Red Devils.

Junior righty Jamie King slipped to 1-2 with the loss for Dickinson.

Johns Hopkins will take a 13-3-1 overall record and 1-0-1 Centennial mark to Swarthmore on Saturday, for a Centennial Conference double-dip. First pitch for game one is scheduled for noon.
