LEWISBURG, PA - The 14th-ranked Princeton men's water polo (11-4) team stifled Johns Hopkins (7-7) on Saturday afternoon in a 15-4 win in a game played at Bucknell.
After sprinting to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter, the Tigers and Blue Jays each traded four goals in the second quarter to reach a 7-4 score at the half. Princeton shutout Johns Hopkins from that point on however, outscoring the Blue Jays 8-0 in the second half for the 15-4 final score.
Chris Kelsch led the Tigers' offense with three goals and was joined by Eric Vreeland and Steve Zalewski who each scored twice. Leading the way for Hopkins was sophomore Peter Davis (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) and sophomore Josh Kratz (Lansdale, PA/ North Penn) with two goals each. Davis now has 31 goals on the season.
Princeton was a perfect 5 for 5 in man-up situations, while it limited Johns Hopkins to 2 for 7 with the man advantage. The Blue Jays return to action at 8:00 p.m. when they face off against the #10 Navy Midshipmen. It will be the second meeting between the two schools in the last three days. Navy defeated Hopkins 15-13 on Wednesday afternoon in Baltimore.
